At present, a teacher librarian is employed to work for a period of time each week, dependent on the number of classes the school has. A teacher-librarian holds a recognised teaching qualification AND qualifications in librarianship, with curriculum and pedagogy knowledge combined with library and information management knowledge.
There is a concern that with the implementation of Local School Local Decisions some out-of-touch Principals may choose to do away with the valuable support of a Teacher Librarian and hire someone simply to operate the library. According to much research including, Australian research,it has been shown that the school library plays a critical role in supporting student learning. L.
