The NSW Board of Studies has produced a guide to support parents.

The Parents' Guide answers key questions about the Australian curriculum and its implementation in New South Wales. The guide provides information about what your child will learn and a timeline for when new syllabuses will be taught in schools.

What do you know about your school library?

"A quality school library is kid friendly and student focused."

The site: MySchool Library What every parent should know has been created to help parents understand the role of school libraries and the Teacher Librarians who run them.

At present, a teacher librarian is employed to work for a period of time each week, dependent on the number of classes the school has. A teacher-librarian holds a recognised teaching qualification AND qualifications in librarianship, with curriculum and pedagogy knowledge combined with library and information management knowledge.

There is a concern that with the implementation of Local School Local Decisions some out-of-touch Principals may choose to do away with the valuable support of  a Teacher Librarian and hire someone simply to operate the library. According to much research including, Australian research,it  has been shown that the school library plays a critical role in supporting student learning. L. Hay. “Student learning through Australian school libraries” Synergy, Part 1, 2005, and Part 2, 2006

Why do I always sign off with this little message? It is not just that I feel it is very important ....One of the KEY FINDINGS of the Parliamentary Inquiry into School Libraries was  “Free voluntary reading is the best predictor of comprehension, vocabulary growth, spelling and grammatical ability and writing style.” M.Lonsdale, Impact of School Libraries on Student Achievement. ACER, 2003.

Story Visit - Let's Read a Book Together

Read a book together :) Using this site you can read books with someone special who is far away... for FREE! Maybe a special family member might like to be involved.

Story Visit - Let's Read a Book Together

Story Visit is a website where children and long-distance loved ones can read story books together. Story Visit combines video conferencing and connected story books: when a grown-up turns the page, the child’s page turns along with it. If the child points to something on his screen, the grown-up can see that on her screen too. Now families can read stories together even when they can't be in the same place
